Notes and quotes from Tulane's win over UAB
Tulane quarterback Ryan Griffin got popped just after he released the ball on a completion in the second half against UAB on Saturday. The play stood up because it was almost unique.
On just about all of his 42 passes, his uniform remained unruffled. The Green Wave's pass protection was a huge reason he set a school record with 466 passing yards in a wild 55-45 victory.
"I don't think I got sacked," Griffin said correctly. "I don't think I got hit in the first half."
UAB's defense absorbed all the blows. He completed 34 of 42 with five touchdowns and one interception in Tulane's no-huddle offense, converting third down after third down with pinpoint throws.
The Wave took its time getting off snaps, allowing him plenty of time to scan the field as the play clock ran down.
"I kind of like to give the sidelines a little heart attack every time by taking it down to the last second," he said.
