WR Justyn Shackleford missed out on two huge weeks
Guerry Smith
TheWaveReport.com A pop Justyn Shackleford felt in his hamstring prevented him from taking part in Tulane's explosion.
Shackleford was on pace for a 200-yard receiving game (six catches, 135 yards) against UTEP on Oct. 20 when he exited with his leg injury early in the second half. While he recuperated the next two weeks, quarterback Ryan Griffin had the two biggest passing days in school history in back-to-back weeks.
The pain of being a spectator for those spectacular performances hurt more than any pain in his leg, but he has been cleared to play this Saturday at Memphis. He can't wait.
"I had to watch all those touchdowns being thrown to the wideouts," Shackleford said. "I need to get up in there and get me some."
The exact number is nine touchdown passes. Griffin threw five in Tulane's 55-45 win over UAB and four in its 49-47 loss to Rice. His yardage totals were 466 and 476, so Shackleford was sidelined for nearly 1,000 yards of opportunities.
"We're trying to get over 500 yards this week at least," Shackleford said. "Our pass offense is great right now. Griff is breaking records, the wideouts and getting touchdowns and at least two receivers are getting 100 yards a game."
