Wave looking for road win at San Diego
Guerry Smith
TheWaveReport.com Tulane, which has not won a road game since New Year's Eve of 2011, has an excellent shot to end its 11-game slide away from New Orleans tonight.
The Green Wave (7-2) plays at San Diego (4-5), which has lost five of its last seven and whose three Division I wins have come against teams with a combined record of 4-20.
Tulane almost won at Nebraska on Nov. 21, and coach Ed Conroy is looking for a better finish this time.
"Other than a few minutes in the first half and the end of the game against Nebraska, we showed tremendous improvement from the first road game (a 79-61 thumping at Georgia Tech) to the second," Conroy said. "I want to see that same improvement from our second to our third."
This is Tulane's first trip to California since December of 1993. The Wave hammered San Diego last year at the New Orleans Arena, 65-46, the seventh of nine consecutive victories to start the season. The Toreros have struggled since stunning Connecticut in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, finishing well below .500 the past three years and finishing near the bottom of the West Coast Conference standings.
