By the Numbers: Tulane basketball

0: The number of Conference USA players averaging as many points (17.5) or rebounds (10.3) as Tulane power forward Josh Davis. Maurice Kemp of East Carolina is second in scoring (17.3), and TaShawn Thomas of Houston is second in rebounding (9.9). Memphis and Southern Miss, the league powerhouses, do not have a player in the top 10 in scoring or the top nine in rebounding. A year after Tulane had the Conference USA Freshman of the Year in Ricky Tarrant, Davis has a real shot at Player of the Year. No Tulane player has ever won the award in C-USA.

.410: The number corresponding to Tulane's shooting percentage. The Green Wave is doing many things well this year, but it can't make a big move up the Conference USA standings without shooting better. Only Rice (.406) among league teams is shooting worse. Ricky Tarrant (.360) and Jordan Callahan (.379) are the principle offenders, but no Tulane player who has taken more than five shots is at 50 percent or better. The Wave is last in the league in assists, too. Of course, good passes don't matter if the receiver fails to finish the play.
