Big East commissioner forgets Tulane in media teleconference
In a conference call with reporters on Tuesday after the soon-to-be-renamed Big East announced its new basketball deal with CBS, league commissioner Mike Aresco forgot about Tulane.
The agreement runs from 2013-14 -Tulane's final year in Conference USA-through 2019-20, and will give the league good exposure on the broadcast network that carries the NCAA Tournament. Next time, though, Aresco might want to mention Tulane.
His full quote:
"We have very good teams," Aresco said. "We probably haven't gotten them noted quite as much during the period of the last few months. We've had a lot going on, but if you look at some of our teams -Temple, you saw what they did in the (NCAA) tournament, this is a terrific team. Fran (Dunphy)'s doing a terrific job there. Cincinnati, Memphis -tournament teams. UConn would have been one (if it were not on Academic Progress Report probation). SMU and Houston are building programs. USF, UCF, again I don't want to leave anyone really. We've got some great basketball in our conference, and it's only going to get better, and this agreement is going to be a big part of it. Together with this and our ESPN agreement, we've got two of the greatest media companies obviously in the world supporting our conference and our brand."
The new conference with a new name will have nine teams in 2014-15-the aforementioned eight and Tulane. But even after saying he didn't want to leave anyone out, Aresco left out Tulane.
