Under-the-radar CB commitment excited about Tulane

Baton Rouge Central cornerback Donnie Lewis Jr, Tulane's latest commitment in the 2014 class, has a simple take on the Green Wave's success this season.

"I like the fact they are trying to build something new up there," he said. "They are actually trying to win."

Accurate or not, the view that Tulane cared little about winning was pervasive for years until Curtis Johnson and his staff arrived in 2012 nine consecutive losing seasons. Although Lewis (6-feet-1, 170) said Tulane's turnaround was not the determining factor in his commitment, he plans to be part of the continued resurgence.

He will arrive at one of Tulane's deepest positions, with starting cornerback Lorenzo Doss returning along with nickel cornerback Jordan Batiste, backup Taurean Nixon and promising freshman Parry Nickerson, among others.

Like many of Tulane's 2014 recruits, he will come in under the radar, having received an official offer only from Northwestern (La.) State, a Football Championship Subdivision team, and some interest from ULL. He is unrated by Rivals.com.
