Jordan Batiste named C-USA Defensive Player of Week

Tulane sophomore cornerback Jordan Batiste has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after producing the best overall game of his young career and helping Tulane to a convincing 31-14 road win at Louisiana-Monroe, as it as announce today by the C-USA office following a vote by a panel of the league's media.
Batiste, a 5'8" 169-pound native of Gramercy and graduate of Lutcher High School, started the ULM contest and led the Green Wave defense with eight tackles (6 solo), including his first career sack, and was responsible for two of the team's five takeaways with one forced fumble, which was returned for a 33-yard touchdown by teammate Dominique Robertson, and Batiste had an interception return for 11 yards.

Batiste also added one pass break-up and two quarterback hurries and helped his defensive teammates hold ULM to 293 yards of total offense, including just 26 yards on the ground.
He is the first Tulane defender to receive the league's weekly award since Dezman Moses on Oct. 4, 2010, and is the first defensive back to claim the accolade since Israel Route on Nov. 20, 2006.
The Green Wave is 3-2 overall and 1-0 in Conference USA play and returns home following a three-game road swing to host new C-USA member North Texas on homecoming this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in a first-time meeting between the schools at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The game will be broadcast live on Fox College Sports.
