Streak over: Tulane loses to Rice

HOUSTON - Tulane saw its two game winning streak come to a screeching halt Saturday night when Rice led throughout on its way to an 88-74 victory in Tudor Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave (14-7, 2-5 C-USA) had won back-to-back games before Rice's (12-10, 3-4 C-USA) hot shooting snapped its own streak of three straight loses.

"I'm not pleased at all," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "Obviously our guys got a little carried away with the second half we had at SMU. We got a taste for scoring the ball and lost our stomach to defend like we have all year. Credit Rice, nobody had done that to us all year."
Ricky Tarrant once again led Tulane with a team-high 18 points. The freshman also dished out a career-high eight assists and grabbed four rebounds. Jordan Callahan added 17 points in the loss, while Josh Davis scored eight points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Trent Rogers, playing in his hometown, chipped in eight points.
Ahmad Ibraham led Rice with 23 points, including three 3-pointers. The Owls connected on nine of 21 from long range and finished the game shooting 50.0 percent from the field.
Connor Frizzelle added 22 points and four 3-pointers, while Omar Oraby came off the bench to score 16 points and Dylan Ennis posted 10 points and 11 assists.
Rice jumped out to a 5-0 lead and Tulane was never able to get within three points the rest of the way. The Owls led 45-36 at the break and held a 17-point lead with 3:53 remaining in the game.
The Green Wave did go on a run midway through the second half to cut a 10-point Rice lead down to five, 60-55, after Ben Cherry knocked down a 3-pointer with 11:36 left. Cherry's second 3-point attempt less than a minute later went in and out and would have cut the deficit to 60-58, but the Owls scored eight of next 10 points to retake a double digit lead.
Tulane shot 44.1 percent from the floor, including 53.8 percent in the opening half.
Tulane will hit the road again when it travels to Huntington, W. Va., to face Marshall on Wednesday at the Cam Henderson Center for a 6 p.m. central time tip.
